Brad Pitt Speaks Out About Angelina’s Mastectomy

Angelina Jolie may have outrun the CIA in Salt and narrowly escaped boulders on the reg in Tomb Raider, but her most superhuman feat didn’t occur in a summer blockbuster movie.
It occurred today in the prosaic pages of the Tuesday edition of the New York Times’ op-ed section and it’s clear that Angelina Jolie’s greatest role is Angelina Jolie.
The actress revealed in a self-written piece to the paper that she recently underwent a three-month-long preventive double mastectomy surgical operation, which her partner Brad Pitt sees as nothing short of “heroic.”
“Having witnessed this decision first hand, I find Angie’s choice, as well as so many others like her[s], absolutely heroic,” Brad tells UK publication Evening Standard.

“I thank our medical team for their care and focus. All I want for her is to have a long and healthy life, with myself and our children. This is a happy day for our family.”
In the NYT article, Angelina expresses her appreciation for Brad; how he stayed at her side throughout every single procedure and respecting her choice.
The circumstances also hits especially close to home for the actress, who lost her mother, Marcheline Bertrand, to ovarian cancer in 2007.
“My mother fought cancer for almost a decade and died at 56,” she begins in the post, explaining how she made her decision to get a double mastectomy and how it’s in a way a tribute to her mom’s legacy.
