Selena Gomez Takes Heat for Controversial Bindi

Selena Gomez is in a bit of a bind. A bind because of her bindi.
When the singer/actress/Justin Bieber heartbreaker wore the traditional South Asian forehead gem for an MTV Movie Awards performance of “Come & Get It,” she probably didn't intend to ask a group of offended Hindus to come and do just that.
While Justin retakes his course on Anne Frank, pull out your chair, Selena. Open your Intro to Hinduism textbook to page 1, because it’s time to get schooled.
"The bindi on the forehead is an ancient tradition in Hinduism and has religious significance," said Rajan Zed, the leader of the Universal Society of Hinduism, in a statement to WENN. "It is also sometimes referred to as the third eye and the flame, and it is an auspicious religious and spiritual symbol."

What the group took most issue with wasn’t that she wore it, but the context. Selena was too sexy for that Bindi.
"It is not meant to be thrown around loosely for seductive effects or as a fashion accessory aiming at mercantile greed," Rajan explained. "Selena should apologize and then she should get acquainted with the basics of world religions."
So far Selena hasn’t addressed the controversy. No tweets, no comments about it to Ellen, no quick-witted disses about how she made bindis cry with David Letterman.
