Katy Perry Sues: I'm Still Popular, So Pay Me!

"Hot N Cold" isn't just a catchy pop song by Katy Perry. Apparently, it also refers to her unreliable popularity.

Katy says it's "hot," a line of hair products she's promoting says it's "cold," and now they have to get a bunch of lawyers involved to comb out and untangle the legal mess.

According to a lawsuit filed by the British hair care company, they want to take a pair of shears and cut ties with the pop star saying she's just not as popular as she was when they first signed her to the tune of $4.5 million.
The company "ghd," which stands for "good hair day," says they have market research to back up their claims. Europeans just aren't as into her as they used to be. Maybe they couldn't relate to the lyrics of "California Gurls" being located so far away. Maybe they saw some photos of her cotton candy hair at past MTV awards shows and thought, "Nope, that's in fact not a good hair day." It's just not good for their business anymore.

Katy, however, claims she had an oral agreement with ghd to extend her contract. Her agent says she's owed an additional $2 million because of it.

"Jemella's [the company that owns ghb] attempt to embarrass Ms. Perry by including defamatory statements about her in a public filing is shameful," Katy's rep told TMZ of the "popularity" comments.

"They're backing out of the deal because of an ownership change, and just throwing shade to hide their bad faith," Katy herself added.

This isn't the first time Katy's had a difficult time moving something off the market. She had some difficulty selling her marital home with ex-husband Russell Brand last year. The asking price was way too high.
