Kate and Will's Royal Baby Name Surprise

It's the Las Vegas roulette table of Royal Baby Names: the odds on what Kate Middleton and Prince William will name their first child.

True story, with more gossip than an episode of Downton Abbey, there's so much speculation circling the name of the British heir, it's become a betting sport.

One firm in particular called Coral has unilaterally slashed the odds—from 25-1 to 2-1—on one specific name, according to the Associated Press.

Rival betting firms William Hill and Ladbrokes are also putting 2-1 favorites on the name "Alexandra." And you thought eccentric British oddsmakers only existed in Guy Ritchie movies.


We've heard "Diana" and "Elizabeth," but Princess Alexandra is one name that's suddenly rising to prominence after receiving an unusually large surge of bets.

"It's the second biggest surge of bets we have witnessed since we were forced to suspend betting on the couple having a girl after Kate dropped a hint," according to a Coral statement.

The name itself follows in royal tradition. There was a Queen Alexandra who ruled alongside her husband King Edward VII in 1901. There's also already a Princess Alexandra, cousin to Queen Elizabeth, who's 76, which common sense says works against the 2-1 odds. It's unlikely, considering that babies, royal or not, don't really like to share.

If this baby is born "Alexandra," party at someone's loft because we're all going to be bloody rich.

If this baby isn't born "Alexandra," hopefully she can give a speech more inspiring than "let them eat cake" because there are going to be a lot of broke-a$$ people in England come July.
