Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder made headlines earlier this month when they announced their off-screen breakup. Vampire Diaries fans whimpered into their own diaries over the thought that this couple of three years was really over, but found comfort knowing that they would remain friends and not see their precious show become compromised.
The two reunited at The CW’s Upfront presentation in New York City to put their most professional foot forward and prove this point, but behind the scenes it was a little more emotional.
According to an eyewitness, the two “avoided eye contact” for most of the evening, also their forced lack of interaction “was awkward.”
By the end of the night, they shared a bittersweet moment, finally finding an opportunity to steal one another away from the event and have an intimate heart-to-heart.
“Her eyes welled up,” a source shared with Us Weekly. “She looked so sad.”
Whatever they were talking about, this is probably a sign that we should give the two their space to help them move on—stop blogging about them, send them a giant Edible Arrangement, whatever it is you do to help a couple close friends that have recently split.
