Emma Watson: I’m a Total Fraud

Did you need any more reasons to fall in love with Emma Watson and want her to be your new best friend? Is the Pope Catholic? Is the sky blue? Are you still hungover from Memorial Day?
If you’re a fan of “Pretty Wild,” then you’ve been waiting an eternity for the Sofia Coppola-directed The Bling Ring, starring none other than Emma as Alexis Neiers.
She’s already proven she can deliver a convincing performance, and that’s just from the 90-second trailer we’ve watched on loop for about an hour straight. Needless to say, she’s clearly talented, so +1,200 Friendship Points off her craft alone.
Then she strolls on over to Rookie to give this pretty much flawless interview—how can you not swoon over a young Hollywood celeb who says down-to-earth stuff like, “When people see me, I’m on the red carpet, perfectly dressed and styled, after two hours of hair and makeup. I’m putting on a show.”—illustrating she doesn’t let it all go to her head. Truthfully, even with all the praise, she still doesn’t feel like she fits in.
“It’s called the impostor syndrome,” Emma explained. “It’s almost like the better I do, the more my feeling of inadequacy actually increases, because I’m just going, Any moment, someone’s going to find out I’m a total fraud, and that I don’t deserve any of what I’ve achieved. I can’t possibly live up to what everyone thinks I am and what everyone’s expectations of me are. It’s weird—sometimes [success] can be incredibly validating, but sometimes it can be incredibly unnerving and throw your balance off a bit, because you’re trying to reconcile how you feel about yourself with how the rest of the world perceives you.”
Is there anyway we can print out this quote, put it in a frame, and hang it in every casting director’s office in Hollywood to remind every hopeful that walks through their doors to always keep it in check? Because we’re Google Mapping the nearest Pictures Plus to execute just that.
Anyway, read the Q&A in its entirety here. Bring a bucket of Red Vines and a Ouija board with you, because this is the closest you'll get to having a sleepover chit-chat with Emma.
