On November 30th, Paul Walker was killed instantly in a one-car collision after the vehicle slammed into a tree and burst into flames near Santa Clarita, California. He was only 40 years old.
The Fast and the Furious star was in his business partner and close personal friend Roger Roda’s 2005 Porsche Carrera GT, just leaving a charity event for Paul’s nonprofit group Reach Out Worldwide which the actor organized for the victims of the recent typhoon in the Philippines.
Standing at the crash site, Paul’s friend Jim Torp recounted his final moments to reporters: “Roger backed it in to the garage and Paul jumped in and said, ‘Hey, let’s go for a drive.’”
“So they went for a little drive and this is what happened,” his friend continued, trying to make sense of the unexpected loss to the New York Daily News. “It’s strange. Paul made his movies. He lived his life and died fast and furious today. He loved speed, he loved cars, and he had to die this way. He died in a very fast car with his friend.”
It was the last time many would see or hear from him. Police are continuing their investigation into the cause of the accident. Sergeant Brian Allen of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station explained what he could to the Santa Clarita Valley Signal: “We don’t know much about the cause of the collision other than that we know speed was at least a contributing factor.”
