Anusha Rizvi to make Bhojpuri film

Anusha Rizvi of Peepli Live fame is working on her next film titled Afeem, a Bhojpuri adaptation of Amitav Ghosh's novel Sea of Poppies. On being questioned as to why she is going the Bhojpuri way, the director said that since it is a period film set in Bihar in 1830s, it could not be made in Hindi. Anusha pointed out that considering Bulenkhandi language was used in Peepli Live, Bhojpuri should not be a problem as the language is being spoken by a vast number of people around the world.

Interestingly, the filmmaker has roped in her father Professor Mujib Rizvi, a linguist who has worked on the medieval poetry of Bihar, as a consultant on the film. Once again Anusha will be directing the film along with her husband Mahmood Farooqui, where the film is aimed at being a musical although not like a traditional Bollywood film.

Talking about the music of the film she says that they will cull out the authentic music and voices wherever possible, based on the research material procured from the libraries in Bihar. The filmmaker is set to travel to the interiors of Arrah, Chapra etc. to churn out traditional music for the film.
