No big, over-the-top ceremony. No Vera Wang dress. No open bar and plates at $100 a head.
Instead what we have is Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard trooping on down the steps of the Beverly Hills County Clerk’s Office in Los Angeles yesterday where the two were married.
It
turns out the marriage ended up being more spontaneous than it already
sounds. According to TMZ, eyewitnesses at the clerk office said that
Kristen and Dax originally just went to the building to file for a
marriage license when a court employee suggested, “Hey, you’re already
here with the right paperwork, how about you just leave here married?”
They agreed.
In a nearby courtroom, the two exchanged vows. Only a photographer was present.
Kristen previously said she wanted to have this sort of quiet ceremony: “I feel like we get enough attention in our daily lives and we just want something sort of private that involves pen and paper.”
Seven months ago, the two welcomed a daughter, Lincoln. For the past three-and-a-half years, the couple have been engaged, but decided not to get married out of principle; they announced they were waiting until same-sex marriage was found legal in California in protest of Proposition 8.
Dax proposed in July 2013, after the U.S. Supreme Court legalized it in the state of California.
