Angelina Jolie Makes First Public Appearance Since Double Mastectomy

If you need a reason to get motivated on this Monday morning, consider Angelina Jolie.
The actress made headlines when she revealed that she underwent a double mastectomy this year after learning she carries a hereditary gene associated with breast and ovarian cancer. Doctors estimated her likelihood of contracting breast cancer without surgery at 87 percent.

In the face of all that, she stepped out for the first time since that revelation, with her partner, Brad Pitt in London for the premiere of his film, World War Z.
Angelina answered questions about the public response to her surgery and her NY Times Op-Ed piece.
“I have been very happy just to see the discussion about women’s health expanded,” she said, “and that means the world to me and after losing my mom to these issues, I am very grateful for it, and I have been very moved by the kind of support from people, really very grateful for it.”
Brad, thankful for her support during press rounds for his film, said, “She learned a lot going through it and we learned a lot as a family going through it. She thought there was something to share and that was important to her. That’s who she is.”
