Michael Keaton, Emma Stone, Naomi Watts, Zach Galifianakis to join Birdman crew

2014 is going to have something big as impressive names like Michael Keaton, Emma Stone, Naomi Watts and Zach Galifianakis have clubbed together for Birdman, Alejandro Gonzalez Innaritu’s latest project under the banner of Fox Searchlight and New Regency. The 21 Grams and Biutiful director Innaritu is all set to helm the dark comedy based on a short story by Raymond Carver.
The storyline revolves around a former movie star who helms a Broadway play to regain his high-profile status. But it proves difficult when he has to deal with the lead actor’s egotistic behaviour. The ‘Batman’ in the 1989 and 1992 Tim Burton movies, Keaton will be playing the movie star’s role while Emma Stone will be playing his daughter and assistant, who has just returned from a rehab, Galifianakis will be the producer of his play and Watts will be the actress in his production team. The play’s leading man and the ex-wife are yet to be decided.

Gonzalez Inarritu, who jointly scripted the film with Nicolas Giacobone, Alexander Dinelaris and Armando Bo, will co-produce it with Robert Graf and John Lesher. An early April looks like a possible time to begin the production. While Stone is presently shooting for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and will star in Guillermo del Toro's Crimson Peak, Watts is fresh with her Oscar nomination for her performance in Summit’s The Impossible. Galifianakis is presently eyeing his next role as Wolf Pack member Alan in The Hangover Part III while Keaton recently completed MGM’s remake of Robocop.
